Drogheda Physiotherapists are offering Ireland’s first live virtual home-based Pulmonary Rehabilitation Programme for COPD patients as part of the mPower project delivering digital interventions. The live, interactive classes which started in November allow beneficiaries to exercise in the comfort of their own home. Classes are streamed live from the Tech Hub in Drogheda’s Boyne Primary Care Centre live to the individual’s home alleviating the inconvenience and cost of travelling to a hospital or community centre.
The virtual classes also use NHS Attend Anywhere, and Drogheda is the first hospital to use this technology in this form. Most tend to use it for virtual consultations, appointments or clinics. Speaking after the first week of classes Cathy Gillen, Respiratory Clinical Specialist, said: “So far the classes have been well received and the feedback from the participants has been overwhelmingly positive. People are enjoying the interactive nature of the class as well as the opportunity to exercise with guidance in the comfort of their own home”.
