The mPower team are pleased to welcome Teresa McGarvey who recently joined us as mPower Business Service Lead for Ireland.
Teresa brings a wealth of relevant experience with her and will no doubt be a huge asset to the team. As well as working within Health and Care services for many years, her most recent experience saw Teresa working in the Health Improvement Department of the Public Health Agency (PHA) in Northern Ireland as well as undertaking the role of Training and Development Dementia Project Officer in the roll out of the Northern Ireland Dementia Strategy.
Working in PHA, Teresa was the Regional Project Manager for the Maximising Access to Services, Grants and Benefits in Rural Areas (MARA), a cross departmental project with the Department of Agriculture, Department of Communities and the Department of Health in Northern Ireland. In this role she co-ordinated visits to over 18,000 households in the most rural deprived areas across Northern Ireland signposting them for various grants, services and benefits to increase their general health and well-being. Also within PHA, Teresa was involved in several early intervention and prevention initiatives across various thematic areas including mental health and suicide, physical activity, obesity, breast feeding, early years, home accident prevention and workplace health to name but a few.
Whilst working on the Dementia Strategy, Teresa played a key role in the development and delivery of a 6-month training programme for 260 dementia champions as well as co-ordinating training for over 2,400 informal dementia care givers. Her role also involved the development of Northern Ireland’s first Dementia Learning and Development Framework which is now used extensively across the 5 Health and Social Care Trust as well and colleges and universities.
Welcome Teresa!
